Variable Stiffness Coil Assembly For Olympus CF-H190L Colonoscope
►Brief Description
The Variable Stiffness Wire/Coil is a core mechanical element of Olympus’s proprietary RIT (Responsive Insertion Technology) found in the CF-H190L colonoscope.
Unlike gastroscopes, colonoscopes navigate acute loops in the large intestine. This internal steel wire and coil assembly allows the endoscopist to adjust the rigidity of the insertion tube in real-time, helping to prevent loop formation and minimize patient discomfort.

►FAQ
What are the primary clinical signs that the stiffness wire has broken?
A: If the internal steel wire breaks or snaps, you will typically notice:
No change in rigidity: Turning the adjustment ring from 0 to 3 yields absolutely no change in the flexibility of the endoscope.
Loss of tactile resistance: The adjustment ring on the control head may feel completely loose or turn with zero resistance.
Sudden looping: The endoscope loops much more easily in the sigmoid colon than usual, despite dial adjustments.
Why does the adjustment ring feel stuck or very stiff to turn?
A: This is usually caused by a kinked stiffness wire or corrosion inside the endoscope. If the endoscope suffers a minor fluid invasion that goes unnoticed, the internal stainless steel components can rust and bind together. Alternatively, if the insertion tube was severely bent or crushed during a procedure or reprocessing, the wire inside may have kinked, preventing it from sliding smoothly through the outer coil.
